Cabinet Cards
Cabinet cards were used by portrait photographers starting in the 1870's. It was a slightly larger version of the French carte de visite. Cabinet cards were initially used to show landscapes but shifted to portrait use during its evolution. The cabinet cards that I create combine these two aspects. I create the imagery as well as the fictitious photographers and their logos. The imagery with the logo is printed on smooth fine-art paper using pigment based inks. After dry mounting they are aged using various techniques before a mixture of varnish and bees wax is applied. The work is signed on the back to keep the false history intact.
